Wee~! Free time is precious, so I figured out the best way to spend them will be on this project. And some games. I planned to finish this before Feb, but I had to work the kalesa on the last week, so this gotta drag onto Feb. Hope to finish by this week.
Painted the background and blocked out some of the people. I didn't wanna spend too much time on background stuff so I will juz cut back on details. Dun wanna steal attention from Miss 2009 afterall. The cityscape behind the windows is stock photo. The windows will reflect alot of room light thus making the cityscape not so visible. So there is no point spending time on it.
The toughest part gotta be painting shiny metals. Especially those super shiny ones that reflects the environment around it.
I had to try a few times to get the beer taps to look right. Usually when I paint, I lay down the basic color (midtones), then go on to shadows and general highlights before putting in strong highlights. However this standard procedure doesn't really work on shiny metals. So I tried a different approach. I laid down dark colors (dirty brown/green), then go onto the yellow/orangy highlights and finally strong bright shines. I have to add in hues of blue/green to produce some reflection effect from the environment.
Can't say I am very happy with the results of the beer taps, but I gotta move on first. Might juz tone down the saturation and value later so soft things up. The base of the beer taps are kinda ugly so I decided to cover it partially with a serviette box lol. But even smooth plastic calls for certain amount of reflectivity... :S
The seat base was much easier since it isn't as shiny as the beertaps. I got it right at the first go.
I have done the textures for the kalesa.

Horse and horse hair textures not by me.
Rendered with Metal Ray.
Theres alot of room for enchancement, and I will do so when I have the time (for demo reel purpose). For now its sufficient for the camera.
I will also do the horse texture myself when I have the time.
